Veterans honored at the 47th-annual Marion du Pont Scott Colonial Cup

CAMDEN, S.C. – The 47th-annual Marion du Pont Scott Colonial Cup will be held this Sat. Nov. 19 at the famed Springdale Race Course in historic Camden. The prestigious race will feature a variety of events, and will recognize all currently serving, retired, and former members of the military; both state and federal forces.

This year, the Colonial Cup has partnered with “BigScreens OnTheGo” which is providing two huge jumbotrons for race spectators. In recognition of Military Appreciation Day, the jumbotrons will also air welcome messages from Maj. Gen. James E. Livingston, U.S. Marine Corps (Ret.), recipient of the Medal of Honor; and Maj. Gen. Tom Mullikin, commander of the S.C. State Guard and pres. and principal partner of the Mullikin Law Firm which is the named-sponsor of the Carolina Cup in the spring of 2017.

“Both the Colonial Cup this weekend and the Carolina Cup – which the Mullikin Law Firm is proud to sponsor in the spring – are internationally recognized steeplechase races which all of Camden’s citizens, in fact all of South Carolina, may take great pride in,” says Mullikin. “That said, perhaps our state’s greatest sources of pride are our military veterans, our vital military bases, and our rich military heritage going back to 1670 when the First Provincial Militia stepped ashore at Albemarle Pointe in Charleston.”

Mullikin adds, “This Saturday we will welcome the public and our veterans to Camden. We will celebrate our military heritage and we will enjoy one of this nation’s greatest annual steeplechase racing events.”

The Springdale Race Course is located on the outskirts of the city at 200 Knights Hill Road in Camden. Gates upon Sat. morning at 9:00 a.m. The first race will run at 12:30 p.m.
