Minghua USA breaks ground on Upstate facility

April 11, 2016

GREER, SC – Chinese business, Jiangnan Mould & Plastic Technology Co., Ltd., announced that the company will establish operations in Spartanburg County with the building of their company, Minghua USA. The company celebrated Minghua’s arrival in the Upstate with a groundbreaking ceremony held on Tuesday afternoon at the plant site, located at 1000 Robinson Road in Greer, S.C.

Minghua USA will be the first Chinese company to become a supplier to the BMW Manufacturing facility in Greer. Minghua will invest $45 million in the project, which is expected to create 150 new jobs over the next five years. This is the company’s first U.S. manufacturing facility. Strategically positioned to support South Carolina’s thriving automotive sector, Minghua’s 260,000-square-foot facility is expected to be fully operational in the second half of 2017.

“Today’s groundbreaking ceremony marks the beginning of main construction work for Minghua’s state-of-the-art production facility, which will further grow the strategic partnership between the BMW Group and Minghua,” said Rainer Bickmann, Director of Purchasing, Production, and Technology Exterior Plastics for BMW Worldwide. “At BMW, our success is driven by four ideals: Innovation, Quality, Flexibility, and Competitive Cost. Our very reliable strategic partner, Minghua, is also based on these four principles, and our relationship is based on mutual support.”

“Jiangnan’s move to Spartanburg further proves what so many already know – that South Carolina has become a top destination for any company in the automotive industry,” said Governor Nikki Haley. “This investment, and the new jobs it will create, is a huge win for the company, Spartanburg County, and the entire state of South Carolina.”

The private groundbreaking ceremony was celebrated with a foundation stone unveiling and symbolic tree planting, followed by a traditional Chinese lion dance and a lively appearance by the Clemson University Rally Cats.

Jiangnan started a similar project with BMW in 2015 through a new wholly owned subsidiary, Minghua de Mexico. According to BMW Group officials, Minghua’s first order of business in South Carolina is to provide parts for BMW’s future X5 and X6 series.
