Miss South Carolina delegates recognized at State House
May 6, 2025The South Carolina State House welcomed more than 50 local delegates and volunteers from the Miss South Carolina Scholarship Organization on April 29 for Miss South Carolina Day, an annual tradition recognizing the organization’s impact on young women and communities across the Palmetto State.
While at the State House, the current Miss South Carolina, Miss South Carolina’s Teen and 2025 delegates were recognized for their contributions to their communities and the state. Local delegates also met with their elected officials to discuss their service initiatives and future plans.
The South Carolina House of Representatives passed a resolution honoring the organization for its continued dedication to scholarship, service and leadership development.
“Miss South Carolina Day is about more than crowns and sashes—it’s about acknowledging the thousands of hours our delegates dedicate to public service and the personal growth they gain in the process,” said Chaz Ellis, President and Co-Executive Director. “We are proud to celebrate our role in shaping future leaders and empowering young women across South Carolina.”
Miss and Teen delegates will return to the state capital in June for a weeklong state competition, culminating in the crowning of Miss South Carolina and Miss South Carolina’s Teen 2025.
As an official preliminary to the Miss America Competition, the Miss South Carolina Scholarship Organization, Inc. is one of the largest providers of scholarships to young women in South Carolina. While many view the competition as a single-night event, events like Miss South Carolina Day highlight the organization’s broader mission.
Each year, candidates in the Miss South Carolina program compete for more than $200,000 in scholarships, made possible through local competitions and the Miss South Carolina Scholarship Foundation. Beyond the stage, participants engage in interviews, talent performances, public speaking and digital outreach – skills that serve them in all walks of life.
With the help of dedicated volunteers and mentors, these young women complete thousands of hours of community service annually, serving as positive role models in their hometowns.
Operating under the guidelines of the Miss America Organization, the Miss South Carolina Scholarship Organization emphasizes individuality, communication skills, personal health and education. Its mission is to create and support opportunities for young women to express their talents, intelligence and opinions while preparing them for academic and lifelong success.
