The largest crowd in the history of The Old Cigar Warehouse helped usher in the region’s latest food festival, the Tacos n’ Tequila Fiesta presented by Lunazul 100% Agave Tequila, Sunday at The Old Cigar Warehouse.

More than 800 people sampled the best taco and tequila drink creations at the event. The festival also featured a contest portion to decide the best overall taco and tequila creations in the Upstate where the winners earned the coveted Golden Sombrero award from a panel of three judges.

White Duck Taco won the Golden Sombrero for Best Overall Taco, and Stacey Wingate of Breakwater won for Best Overall Lunazul Cocktail. Other judge’s panel award winners were: Most Creative Taco, Restaurant 17; Best Sidekick, Ji-Roz; and Most Creative Cocktail, Whitney Woodward of Up on the Roof. Winners in the People’s Choice categories were: Best Lunzaul Cocktail, Hannah Mullikin of Gringo’s Cantina; Social Media Star, Ji-Roz; and Best Taco, Restaurant 17.

Restaurants taking part included: Willy Taco, Tipsy Taco, Toss Pizza, Up on the Roof, White Duck Taco Shop, Tin Lizzy’s, Sticky Fingers Ribhouse, Liquid Catering, Restaurant 17, Breakwater, Gringo’s Cantina, Ink & Ivy, Ji-Roz, Nacho Taco, Papi’s Tacos and NoseDive.

“We knew early on that people were going to be interested in this event because of the strong reactions we got,” said Tammy Johnson, CEO of High Spirits Hospitality. “But we didn’t expect this much support from the community the first time out.”
