Morton & Gettys names two new partners: Dan Ballou and Melissa Cassell

Rock Hill law firm Morton & Gettys has named two new partners, Daniel J. Ballou and Melissa G. Cassell, effective Jan. 1.

“Melissa started with our firm as a law clerk while attending USC School of Law,” said John Gettys, a founding partner of the firm. “It was obvious to us all that she would be a fantastic attorney, and we were overjoyed she decided to relocate to Rock Hill and join our firm after graduation. Melissa is one of our great success stories, and our firm will be the better with her as a partner.”

Of Dan Ballou, Gettys said, “To have such a good lawyer, and friend, join our firm a few years ago to establish and build a civil litigation practice has made a world of difference in our ability to meet the needs of the people of Rock Hill. This new practice area for us now boasts four attorneys who strive to protect the interests of our clients.”

Melissa Cassell earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at the University of South Carolina in 2009, and earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2013. She focuses her practice on corporate law, employment law and commercial real estate. She is licensed to practice in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia.

Ballou received his bachelor’s degree in history from Princeton University in 1987, and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1991. He is a seasoned civil litigator with experience at all levels of federal and state courts in South Carolina. He represents clients in in the court system as well as before local government councils or government agencies and commissions. He also helps companies interested in building or expanding in the Central Upstate navigate governmental licensing and requirements.
