Motley Rice named to inaugural National Law Journal list

September 11, 2014

CHARLESTON, SC – In announcing the inaugural list of America’s Elite Trial Lawyers this Sept. 9, 2014, the National Law Journal and Law.com named Motley Rice LLC as one of 50 select firms that “are doing the most creative and substantial work on the plaintiffs’ side.”

To be included on the list, firms had to show at least one significant win in the past year and a half, as well as an “impressive track record” during the last three to five years. Firms were recognized as a whole, the announcement stated, as “successful trial work is usually the result of a team effort.”

“We are confident that our selections represent those law firms that are on the cutting edge of plaintiffs-side work in the United States and that have achieved exemplary results for their clients,” wrote National Law Journal and Legal Times Editor-in-Chief Beth Frerking and ALM Vice President & Editor-in-Chief David Brown in their announcement letter to firms.

“We’re honored to be included in the Elite Trial Lawyers list with so many other firms that we hold in high regard,” said Motley Rice co-founder Joe Rice. “We are pleased that our work throughout the past several years has been recognized; and we plan to continue raising the bar well into the future.”

The National Law Journal and Law.com based their selection of America’s Elite Trial Lawyers on a number of factors, including the firm’s willingness to take on large cases and persevere in the face of adversity, as well as the impact that the litigation results had on government or business practices. Firms must have had at least one significant win between Jan. 1, 2013, and June 30, 2014, with “significant win” being defined as “prevailing in a bench or jury trial or in a major settlement where the stakes were high.” Additionally, firms must have devoted at least half of their efforts to plaintiffs’ litigation and activities.
