Ms. Suzanne N. Barr Receives Meritorious Service Award from Regional Accrediting Body
December 16, 2010ATLANTA,GA – December 15, 2010 – Suzanne N. Barr, Associate Vice President forPlanning and Accreditation, Trident Technical College in Charleston,S.C., recently received a Meritorious Service Award from the SouthernAssociation of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)during its annual conference held in Louisville, Ky.
In presenting this award, Dr. John Hilpert, Chair of the SACSCOC Boardof Trustees, thanked Ms. Barr for committing her time and for dedicatingherself to sustaining the quality of the self-regulatory process. Dr.Hilpert continued: “We thank you for your many years of service as chairof committees, for assisting in the improvement of the Fifth-YearInterim Report Review process, and for making this organization strongerand the institutions you have served better.”
Ms. Barr has served the Commission for the past 16 years, making 13visits and chairing 10. She has been a Board member, member of the PeerReview Advisory Board, a Special Reader for the Committee on Complianceand Reports, a coordinator for Fifth-Year Reports, and a frequentspeaker at annual meetings.
Prior to her present position, Ms. Barr served Trident Technical Collegeas Assistant Vice President for Instruction, Associate Dean of Arts andSciences, and a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics.
Ms. Barr was awarded the B.A. from Millsaps College, and the M.A.Ed. from The Citadel.
Upon receiving this award Ms Barr said, “Working for COC is a win-winsituation for me. It’s the best professional development possible, and Ican use what I learn to help with Trident Technical College’saccreditation activities. It is also rewarding to share what I havelearned with other colleges I visit.”
