MTC nursing and health sciences graduates receive their professional pins

Nearly 200 nursing and health science students received their professional pins for completing their academic programs last week. Participation in the pinning ceremony allows graduates the opportunity to present themselves as the professional they have worked hard to become. Midlands Technical College nursing graduates typically have more than a 90 percent first-time pass rate on their national board exams, and a 94 percent job placement rate after graduation.
Students in the Nursing, Nursing Assistant, Expanded Duty Dental Assisting, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Respiratory Care, Health Information Management, Medical Record Coding, Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy Certificates, and Surgical Technology program received pins.
The speaker at Friday’s nursing pinning ceremony was MTC alumnus James William Jeffcoat, Nurse Manager at Lexington Medical Center.
Pinning ceremonies date back to 1860 when Florence Nightingale was honored with a pin for her selfless efforts to injured soldiers. By 1916, it became a standard in the United States to give all graduates of the health care professions a pin during a special ceremony.
