MUSC appoints new Chief of Staff

February 1, 2022

After a comprehensive search process, Dawn Hartsell has been appointed as the new chief of staff for the MUSC President’s Office.

Given the rapid growth of the organization since MUSC President David J. Cole, M.D., FACS took the helm in 2014, the chief of staff role was established to promote more strategic and frequent engagement and presence from the President’s Office with leaders, teams and individuals across MUSC and in the larger statewide community.

Hartsell, who holds a Master of Business Administration degree and Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Health Care Management from Western Governors University, has served numerous and critical roles on multiple professional teams and within the President’s Office for a total of 14 years.

Hartsell’s scope of work includes special projects management, strategic planning and evaluation for the President’s Office, and ad hoc task forces and work groups both in and outside the organization that require MUSC presidential input, feedback and support.
