MUSC Health announces new Patient Care Technician Training Program
January 16, 2025MUSC Health’s Workforce Development announced a new initiative to train patient care technicians (PCTs) through an innovative, hands-on program. PCTs work closely to support health care providers by performing various tasks to assist in patient care. To celebrate their commitment to the program, a signing ceremony will take place on Thurs., Jan. 16, at 10:00 a.m. in the MUSC Health Columbia Medical Center Downtown classroom, located at 2435 Forest Drive in Columbia.
This program represents a collaboration between Midlands Technical College, Apprenticeship Carolina and MUSC Health. Designed to equip participants with both practical skills and real-world experience, the program ensures a pathway to employment and success in the health care field. Key details include:
- On-the-job training: Participants will gain valuable hands-on experience while training at MUSC Health Columbia Medical Center Downtown.
- Classroom instruction: Participants will gain their Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)certification; training sessions will utilize classroom space at Midlands Technical College, providing a robust educational foundation.
- Grant funding: The program is generously funded by Apprenticeship Carolina, covering 140 hours of training.
- Paid-learning opportunity: Trainees will receive compensation throughout their training period, making this a paid opportunity to learn and grow in the health care field.
- Guaranteed employment: Upon successful completion, participants will be offered full-time employment with MUSC Health, ensuring job security and career advancement.
This year’s program features seven signees who are embarking on this transformative journey to become patient care technicians. Their commitment underscores the vital role PCTs play in providing exceptional care to patients and supporting the broader health care team.

The signing ceremony will serve as an official kickoff for the program, highlighting the importance of collaboration in addressing the growing demand for skilled health care professionals. Media representatives and community members are invited to attend.
