MUSC Health announced the launch of the largest and most ambitious capital campaign in its history – a $250 million initiative to support the development of a new MUSC Comprehensive Cancer Hospital that will significantly expand access to world‑class cancer care for patients across South Carolina.

The campaign is a major investment in the state’s health care future. The proposed cancer hospital will serve as the cornerstone of MUSC Health’s statewide cancer ecosystem, bringing together advanced clinical services, groundbreaking research and compassionate, patient‑centered care into a single, integrated destination.

“We are excited to launch this historic campaign and deeply proud of what it will mean for the people of South Carolina,” said Don Migliori, co-chair of the MUSC Cancer Hospital Capital Campaign Committee, Hollings Cancer Advisory Board member and member attorney at Motley Rice. “This effort reflects a shared commitment to improving cancer outcomes statewide, and we are grateful for the strong support and partnership of leaders across the state who are standing with us in this effort.”

South Carolina is projected to see a significant increase in cancer incidence in the coming years, heightening the need for specialized, integrated cancer care. The new cancer hospital is designed to meet that need – offering a comprehensive, one‑stop destination for inpatient and outpatient oncology services, precision medicine, advanced diagnostics, cellular therapies and early-phase clinical trials.

The hospital will also be intentionally designed around the patient and family experience, supporting individuals from diagnosis through treatment, recovery and survivorship in a healing environment that emphasizes dignity, access and continuity of care.

The Hollings Cancer Center Advisory Board has committed to full participation in the campaign, offering early leadership to help to launch the fundraising effort. The board has supported cancer care and research at MUSC for many years,  and its leadership sends a powerful signal about the importance of this hospital and the impact it will have for patients and families across the state.

“This campaign marks a transformative moment for cancer care in South Carolina,” said Sean Mummert, co-chair of the MUSC Cancer Hospital Capital Campaign Committee, Hollings Cancer Advisory Board member and CEO and founder of The Office People. “By bringing together innovation, clinical excellence and statewide partnership, we are helping ensure patients and families have access to comprehensive, world-class care now and well into the future.”

The project will support MUSC’s long‑term strategy to achieve National Cancer Institute (NCI) Comprehensive Cancer Center designation, an elite status that recognizes excellence in research, clinical care, education and community impact.

In the coming months, MUSC will share additional details about the campaign, including project milestones, philanthropic opportunities and how the new cancer hospital will strengthen MUSC’s expanding statewide cancer ecosystem.
