MUSC Hollings Cancer Center sponsors 6th Annual Community Compass Project

This Health Awareness Event entitled “Dialogue and Dining: Building a Healthy Community” features cancer prevention experts, and a performance by actress, director, writer, and theater professor Joy Vandervort-Cobb

The sixth annual Community Compass Project, sponsored by the Hollings Cancer Center, Medical University of South Carolina, Wells Fargo, Motley Rice, and other community partners is set for Saturday, November 12 from 2:00 – 4:30 p.m. at the Hollings Cancer Center.

The event features Joy Vandervort-Cobb who has performed in numerous award winning plays and television shows from Shakespeare to August Wilson’s Fences to Army Wives. Dr. Vandervort-Cobb’s performance will be followed by a panel discussion with health experts including Dr. K. Michael Cummings, tobacco policy and control expert; Dr. Brenda Hoffman, Gastroenterologist; Dr. Shantae Jenkins, Chief Medical Officer for Fetter Health Care Network; and  Dr. Jennifer Young Pierce, Gynecologic Oncologist and leading HPV advocate.

Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy a guided tour of the Hollings Cancer Center, network while dining on traditional favorites catered by Chef Curtis Labitue, Executive Chef/Owner, Royal Grand Events, and enjoy the indigenous Lowcountry music performance by Ann Caldwell and the Magnolia Singers.
