MUSC to host week of events during National Public Health Week 2016

MUSC will celebrate National Public Health Week (NPHW) this year from April 4-10 with a variety of events planned both on and off campus.  The public is invited to all events and there is no charge.

What is Public Health and NPHW?

During NPHW, communities across the country recognize the contributions of public health initiatives and highlight issues important to improving our nation.  The theme of this year’s NPHW is “Healthiest Nation Screen Shot 2016-04-04 at 6.56.44 PM2030” and the week will kick off with a public health fair and blood drive at the library portico in the MUSC Horseshoe on Ashley Avenue at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 4.  At noon opening remarks will be made by MUSC President Dr. David Cole, MUSC Medical Center CEO, Dr. Pat Cawley, and MUSC Chief Diversity Officer, Dr. Willette Burnham.

Event highlights

Other events throughout the week include a Q&A on gun violence and prevention at Fuel Cantina, a presentation on the Zika virus, and a Friday lunch event hosted by the Colleges of Medicine and Graduate Studies.  A keynote address will be presented by Dr. Joseph (Lee) Pearson on April 6 from12:00-1:00 p.m. in 110 Bioengineering; lunch will be provided to the first 75 attendees.
