Museum of Revolutionary War History to host free lunch & learn on frontier weaponry

History buffs and curious community members can take a closer look at 18th-century frontier combat this week during a free educational luncheon hosted by the Museum of Revolutionary War History.

The event takes place Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Mauldin Cultural Center, located at 101 E. Butler Road. Admission to the Member & Community Lunch & Learn is free and open to the public.

The presentation, titled “Tomahawks and Belt Axes Used During the Revolutionary War Era,” features guest speaker Mark Roberts. Roberts will examine the distinct craftsmanship, tactical utility, and cultural significance of edged tools and weapons that played a pivotal role in backcountry skirmishes and daily camp life during the fight for American independence. Attendees will have the opportunity to view historical imagery and artifacts while learning how soldiers, frontiersmen, and indigenous allies relied on belt axes and tomahawks as essential survival gear and close-quarters weapons.

The session offers both museum members and local residents an informal setting to connect, enjoy lunch, and explore a specialized chapter of early American military history.
