White and Mulkey win regional awards from Association of Community College Trustees

COLUMBIA, SC – MTC president Dr. Marshall “Sonny” White, Jr., and Radiologic Technology program director Dr. Bill Mulkey have each won Southern regional awards from the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT).

White won the 2014 ACCT Southern Region Chief Executive Officer Award, and Mulkey won the 2014 ACCT Southern Region Faculty Member Award.

“When it comes to being a technical college president, Dr. White knows how to build bridges between students and employers,” said Randall “Mack” Jackson, MTC Commission chair. “Whether it is providing student pathways to success or strengthening partnerships with industry to ensure the college’s programs and services deliver relevant training, Dr. White simply excels.”

Jackson added, “Dr. White’s leadership extends beyond the campus, and he has been a key figure in three important regional developments: creating a resurgence of advanced manufacturing in our state; promoting South Carolina’s nuclear renaissance; and leading significant efforts to bring together business, community and educational partners.”

He is involved in every aspect of radiology in South Carolina and consistently displays enthusiasm for teaching, faculty development and life-long learning.

For the past 43 years, Mulkey’s graduates have had 100% job placement in the radiology profession. For the same amount of time, his students have had a 99% passing rate on the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists National Board Exam.

Jackson said, “While many instructor evaluations read like nothing more than a dutiful act, evaluations for Dr. Bill Mulkey glow with his accomplishments in the classroom. Time and again he is praised as a motivator and an inspiration. Praise for Bill Mulkey comes from beyond the classroom as well. He is a nationally known and loved figure in radiology circles who has consistently earned the respect of his peers as a thought leader.”

The ACCT Southern Region awards will be presented at the 45th Annual ACCT Leadership Congress, which will take place in Chicago October 22-25. As regional award recipients, White and Mulkey will be nominees for ACCT’s national Marie Y. Martin Chief Executive Officer Award and William H.
