Nauful selected to participate in 2016 Riley Institute Diversity Leaders Initiative Program

April 18, 2016

Adams and Reese partner Tara E. Nauful is one of 42 leaders selected from sectors across South Carolina to participate in the 2016 Spring Midlands Class of the Riley Institute at Furman University’s Diversity Leaders Initiative (DLI) program. Nauful was selected following a stringent nomination and voting process. Upon completion of the five-month-long program, she will join a force of more than 1,500 Riley Fellows who are members of a powerful, cross-sector statewide network examining critical issues throughout South Carolina and driving positive change.

The Riley Institute at Furman University’s DLI program is an interactive, award-winning program that teaches participants to understand diversity and inclusion “blind spots” and suspend assumptions. Participants work in small groups to identify and develop solutions for real issues facing their communities. Community action project teams bond participants together and help build stronger communities throughout South Carolina. Ultimately, DLI graduates craft a deep knowledge within themselves of how to effectively manage and lead increasingly diverse workers, clients and constituents.

At Adams and Reese, Nauful is a partner on the Transactions and Corporate Advisory Services Practice Team in the firm’s Columbia office with a regional practice focused on insolvency, collection and litigation matters. A certified specialist in Bankruptcy–Debtor/Creditor Law by the South Carolina Supreme Court, Nauful practices almost exclusively in the field of creditors’ rights.

Nauful is a three-time “Lawyer of the Year” recipient (2012, 2013, 2015) in Charleston, South Carolina, for Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law by Best Lawyers®. The publication also recognizes her for Litigation-Bankruptcy; and Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law. Nauful is also listed in South Carolina Super Lawyers® for Bankruptcy & Creditor/Debtor Rights. In 2010 and 2015, she was named among the “Legal Elite of the Midlands” by Greater Columbia Business Monthly.

Launched in 2003, the Diversity Leaders Initiative program operates statewide with classes in the South Carolina Upstate, Lowcountry, and the Midlands. Classes, limited to around 40 participants, are shaped to reflect the diverse demographic characteristics of South Carolina. Far from a traditional “diversity training class,” DLI brings everyone into the definition of diversity to consider how differences in race, gender, generation, sexual orientation, geographic orientation, culture, knowledge, experience, perception, and more impact the lives of individuals and enterprises. The program further explores how prepared leaders can leverage those differences in support of their missions.
