June 8, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC & NEW YORK, NY – Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP has entered the legal market in New York City with the opening of an office at 415 Madison Ave. and the addition of corporate attorneys experienced in financial services. JPMorgan Chase Bank Executive Director Steve Hantz joins as a partner in Nelson Mullins’ real estate capital markets group, and will assist the 20-plus member team from his base in New York City. Joining him is associate Gillian Deutch, who has previous real estate and corporate finance experience from other New York law firms.

“For the last several years, Nelson Mullins has evaluated potential candidates and groups of lawyers in New York City with the goal to open an office to support our Corporate Group’s capital markets, private equity, public securities, real estate, mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate practices,” said James K. Lehman, Nelson Mullins’ managing partner. “We look forward to growing our 15th office and enhancing our services to clients.”

Hantz has spent the past seven years in the commercial mortgage-backed securities loan closing group on structuring and closing CMBS loans for multi-borrower securitizations and large loans for single borrower securitizations. He works with loan originators to structure loans and draft loan term sheets, working directly with borrowers and their counsel to negotiate and draft the term sheets. He currently manages loan closings and works on the securitization and sale of the loans. Before joining JPMorgan, he worked in a similar role at Bear Stearns.

Nelson Mullins’ capital markets group works largely out of Nelson Mullins’ Atlanta and Charlotte offices, and the group plans to expand its practice in those offices as well as the New York office. The team focuses on analyzing, documenting, closing, warehousing, servicing, staging, and selling commercial and multifamily mortgage loans destined for securitization, as well as asset-backed lending. The team represents international, national, regional, state, and community banks, insurance companies, mortgage brokers, and other institutional lenders, as well as master and special loan servicers, in a variety of matters. The team works in conjunction with Nelson Mullins’ business transaction, tax, ERISA, business reorganization, and securitizations lawyers. It is led by Bradley J. Denson in Atlanta and Jonathan J. Nugent in Charlotte.

In addition to New York, Nelson Mullins has more than 500 attorneys and other professionals with offices in the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia. Established in 1897, the firm’s attorneys provide advice and counsel in litigation, corporate, economic development, securities, finance, intellectual property, government relations, regulatory, and other needs of clients ranging from private individuals to large businesses, including many publicly held companies.
