Nelson Mullins Partner Henry “Buzz” Burwell to be honored by Japanese government in Greenville

Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP partner Henry “Buzz” Burwell is being honored by the Consul of Japan on Saturday, Aug. 26 at the 25th Annual Bon Dance Festival hosted by the Japanese-American Association of South Carolina.

Burwell will be honored with the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette by the Japanese government at the festival – which is returning to the City of Greenville after a three-year hiatus. The Consul General of Japan, Mr. Mio Maeda, will be in attendance.

The award is given to those who have made great strides in the fields of international relations, promotion of Japanese culture, advancements in their field, development in welfare, or preservation of the environment, the Consulate General of Japan in Atlanta said. Burwell is the founder and former chair of the Japan-America Association of South Carolina (JAASC), which he founded in 1988. His work as founder of the organization contributed to promotion of interregional exchange and a stronger understanding between Japan and the United States.

The Bon Dance Festival will take place from noon until 4:30 p.m., the event will feature performances and demonstrations (Taiko, Kyudo, Kendo, Sanshin, Hula, and more!), traditional games, and more.

The JAASC is dedicated to fostering and promoting positive relationships among the people of South Carolina and Japan. The organization aims to strengthen bonds of friendship and understanding through social, educational, and cultural exchanges.
