New and exciting performances to hit the Newberry Opera House stage this season!

You’ll catch the word “new” multiple times as that is the theme for the Newberry Opera House this season. Yes this may not be the newest building in Newberry County; but, there are so many “new” acts, shows, changes and ideas happening here and the opera house can’t wait for you to experience them!

This season the Newberry Opera House will host well over 175 performances, of some of the greatest artists’ performing today.

One of the biggest changes at The Opera House is admittance of beverages into the theatre for the first time ever! Cups are available for purchase at the Opera House bar if you would like to take your drink into the theatre.

There are many more “new” things taking place this season! The Opera House cannot wait to share them with you!

Shows and acts that you don’t want to miss this season: Lightwire Theatre presents: The Ugly Duckling on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 6:30 P.M. Lightwire Theater brings the classic tale, “The Ugly Duckling” to the modern stage in an unforgettable theatrical experience where light tells the tale.

Also taking the stage this month on October 26, at 8:00 P.M. is Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night! This show tells a story of mistaken identities, love triangles, practical jokes, and the immortal words of the Bard that make Twelfth Night a classic for all time. Whether your English class is studying Shakespeare or you are just a huge fan, come laugh, learn, and enjoy this wonderful performance.

Take a break from the shows and join the Newberry Community Players for a friendly city ghost walk on October 29, 2016 the Ghost Stories for Kids will begin at 6:00 P.M. and the regular city walk will begin at 8:00 P.M. Local master storytellers recount tales of local sittings and take you on a journey of exploration in Downtown Newberry at night. The walk starts at the Ritz Theatre!

The well-known show, “Fame – The Musical” will have you on your feet when this musical comes to life on stage. From the mixture of world dance, music, and theatre, this is a show you don’t want to miss. “Fame – The Musical” will take place on Nov 9, 2016 at 8:00 P.M.

After watching “Fame-the Musical” bring your family back the next night, Nov 10 at 5:00 P.M. or 7:00 P.M. to witness the group that you may have seen on America’s Got Talent: the Kamikaze Fireflies. This jaw dropping group will leave you speechless with a mix of comedy and circus acts including many tricks never seen anywhere else.

Country music lovers get ready because you don’t want to miss the Grammy Award-winning group Shenandoah; they will be hitting the stage on Nov 18, 2016 at 8:00 P.M. The group will be performing their classics like “Two Dozen roses”, “Church on Cumberland Road,” and  “I Want to be Loved Like That” plus many more favorites!

To kick off the Christmas season and to get you into the holiday spirit, come watch the traditional performance of The Nutcracker Ballet. Become entranced by the beauty of the Sugar Plum Fairy and her dazzling court on December 2, 2016 at 7:30 P.M.

You have heard of the saying “Christmas in July” right? Well come get a feeling of “summer in December” when The Embers come to town. The pioneers of Carolina Beach Music since the late 1950s will perform beach music and holiday classics all in one night. Performing hits such as “Far Away Places” and the Beach Music anthem “I Love Beach Music.” Feel like its summer again on Dec 14, 2016 at 8:00 P.M. and join the fun!
