New DHEC Licensing Laws Target In-Home Service Providers

Elite Home Care is only Upstate provider to be licensed by the state

GREENVILLE, SC – The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control released new regulations and guidelines for licensing of in-home service providers and Elite Home Care is the only Upstate company to be fully licensed in accordance with DHEC’s newest standards for senior care-givers.

In June 2014, South Carolina DHEC released new standards for licensing in-home care providers and senior companions. These new guidelines placed stricter rules for training of staff and caregivers as well as new protocol for enforcement of codes and regulations. Just four months after the new regulations were put in place, Elite Home Care, a leading in-home, non-medical service provider, received their license. Elite Home Care is now the only company in the Upstate licensed by the state.

In 2010, the National Association for Home Care and Hospice reported that the home care service industry served over 12 million people via more than 33,000 providers, and that number has only increased in recent years. South Carolina’s new process for licensing these providers allows the state to more closely monitor and regulate the industry in an effort to protect the growing elderly population.

“Just like someone would expect a hospital or nursing home to be licensed, people should also expect in-home service providers to be licensed and monitored by the state,” explained Elite Home Care founder Christopher Russo. “We want people to know that in-home care providers in South Carolina are required to be licensed, and individuals have every right to ask to see a company’s license. No one should take advantage of the elderly, and ensuring that your in-home care provider is licensed will give individuals peace of mind and assurance that their provider is operating at the highest standards.”

Founded in 2012, Elite Home Care provides quality care individually tailored so that all clients can enjoy the comforts of their home and remain independent for as long as possible. Elite Home Care’s highly trained professionals offer home care services such as personal care, homemaking, companionship and overall compassionate care.

“We pride ourselves on being a leader in the home-care industry not only in the Greenville-Spartanburg region, but throughout the state as well,” said Elite Home Care Administrator and RN, Andrew Martin. “We’re very proud of the fact that we are the only provider in the region who is fully licensed by DHEC and we look forward to continuing to serve the community and bringing care to our clients.”
