New monthly Farmer’s Market starts this Saturday in Chapin

May 1, 2017

The Chapin Downtown Farmer’s Market kicks off this Saturday, May 6 at 8:30 am in the 100 block of Clark Street in downtown Chapin. This new community offering provides residents and visitors with a healthy and fun shopping alternative with local growers and artisans selling fresh produce, dairy products and meats as well as handmade items like candles, jewelry, soaps and woodcrafts. And the theme of the May market is All About MOM, so people can find a variety of gift ideas for Mother’s Day.

Sponsored by the Town of Chapin and in cooperation with a grant from Eat Smart, Move More Lexington County, another unique feature of the market is interactive demonstrations that promote healthy eating and active lifestyles. Shelly Daugherty, a licensed massage and body work therapist with Chapin’s Essential Wellness, will provide a 30-minute demonstration beginning at 9:30 am on ways to minimize back pain and stress through a variety of methods.

The market will also feature live music, with local musician Curt London performing acoustic sets under the tent, and Jerry Caldwell with the Coffee Shelf will be serving up hot coffee and breakfast treats for market shoppers. And Chapin’s GOoDWorks will be the featured non-profit for the market.

This week’s vendors include Big Belly Farm, Bowers Farms, Mt. Horeb’s Community Garden, Staci’s Scentsations, The Classy Cruet, Agu’s All Natural Salve, Rosie’s Toffee, Ma’Lily, Sonshine and Grace, The Coffee Shelf, and A Through Z Designs. The market runs 8:30 – 11 am on the first Saturdays of the month through October.

Growers and vendors interested in signing up for future markets can access the market rules and application on the Town’s website – www.chapinsc.com. And follow the market’s Facebook page to stay informed of the latest updates and vendor additions.
