New pickleball courts dedicated at Kaminski Park in Georgetown

The City of Georgetown officially expanded its community recreational offerings today with the completion of six new pickleball courts at Kaminski Park in the West End neighborhood.
“Georgetown has always been a place where people care about one another, where we value the outdoors, and where we know how to enjoy life in a way that feels connected and authentic,” Georgetown Mayor Jay Doyle said at the ribbon cutting ceremony. “Pickleball gives residents and visitors alike another reason to come together, stay active, and enjoy all that Georgetown has to offer. It’s one of the few sports where you can see a grandparent, a parent, and a child all on the same court — and all equally convinced they are about to dominate.”
The project encompasses approximately 14,400 square feet of playing surface and was constructed to meet growing local demand for the popular sport. 
Funding for the $52,366 project was reallocated from the Constitution Park Landscape Project, which was previously placed on hold by the Mayor and City Council. Because the total cost fell below the city’s standard procurement threshold, funding was approved administratively by the City Administrator. Following competitive bidding in accordance with city procurement practices, the construction contract was awarded to Carolina Sport Surfaces, a Charleston-based contractor specializing in pickleball court construction and surfacing.
Located in the heart of the West End community, Kaminski Park serves as a central hub for neighborhood recreation. City officials noted that the addition of the courts is part of a broader effort to enhance public park facilities.
“These courts are not just concrete, lines, and a net,” Doyle added. “It is a place where neighbors will gather, friends will laugh, and Georgetown will keep building its community in the best possible way — one dink, one volley, and one questionable call at a time.”
