New primary care practice – plus Prisma Health’s debut Direct Primary Care office – open in downtown Greenville

January 16, 2023

The two primary-care approaches share a roof but are separate entities.

Prisma Health Primary Care – Stone & Main, Prisma Health’s newest primary care practice located at 1 E. Stone Avenue, Greenville, SC, opened in January.

In addition to the practice, the facility will house the health system’s first direct primary care office, a new business-to-business option in which employers pay a flat monthly rate or annual fee that offers their employees comprehensive primary care, including a range of medications and lab tests, without additional fees or co-pays. The goal of the new program is to work closely with employers to ensure their employees and dependents receive timely medical care, without additional expense and while providing outstanding access to a healthcare provider.

“We are excited to launch our unique direct primary care service in downtown Greenville,” said Kris Leo, director of clinical products and operations for Prisma Health. “This new program is a great option for patients because typical out-of-pocket costs are removed to ease access to care. We believe participants will be more likely to seek care early when they can make preventive changes – hopefully, before a health crisis ever develops.”

The new service will be available to employer groups similar to subscription plans with options to cover employees, spouses and dependents. Employees and their dependents will have no out-of-pocket costs and unlimited access – including longer appointment times – with their primary care provider. Membership also covers a full suite of occupational health services.

Prisma Health itself will be the first employer to sign up for the program through a just-launched pilot program. “Our goal is to improve the health of our work force, decrease time away from work and increase the appreciation for a culture of wellness. We’re excited to offer it to our team members,” said Leo.

The program will expand to additional Upstate businesses as early as spring 2023 and expand into the Midlands market in the summer.

Meanwhile, families are already receiving care at Prisma Health Primary Care – Stone & Main, which offers family, internal and pediatric care. A pharmacy is expected to also open in the 7,600-square-foot building later this year.

“We are deeply committed to quality care for the entire family and bringing this new practice into the downtown Greenville community provides an easily accessible location,” said Dr. William “Walt” Roberts, lead physician at Prisma Health Primary Care – Stone & Main. “We look forward to hosting patients at this central location with our fantastic physicians, nurse practitioners and team members,” he said.

Services provided at this location include:
• Acute illnesses and management of chronic diseases
• Physicals, including annual checkups and sports physicals
• Gynecologic care
• Preventive care
• Flu shots and immunizations
• Ultrasound and electrocardiograms (EKGs)
