New Richland Library exhibit tells a family story through jewelry

A new art exhibit is broaching how an inanimate object, such as jewelry, often plays a significant role in human interactions and defining relationships. Some Things Old, Some Things New is now on display in The Gallery at Richland Library.
Highlighting the work of our current Artist-in-Residence, Allison Cicero Moore, the exhibit features around 30 pieces of handcrafted jewelry and pencil drawings. Moore has documented and reinterpreted treasured pieces owned by her great-grandmother and grandmother.
Feeling a personal connection to these women through their love of costume and fine jewelry, which Moore says she has picked up herself, she is using oral histories from family members to better understand how these pieces fit into her genealogy.
There’s an opportunity to meet and interact with Moore during an opening reception from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., Friday, April 12 at our Main location (1431 Assembly Street). The after-hours event, which is free and open to the public, includes a DIY jewelry booth.
You can also connect with Moore during the week when she hosts office hours in the artist-in-residence studio. Her residency and the exhibit run through the end of May 2019.
