New section of Sliding Rock Trail open

March 6, 2024

A new section of the Sliding Rock Trail opened in the Nicholtown community, providing hikers and mountain bikers with an additional 1.5 miles of natural-surface trail.

Trail users now can connect to the route from Edler Street, Clark Street, Webster Road and the existing Sliding Rock trail and the SRT. The new section includes the city’s first intermediate-level mountain bike elements, such as rollers, berms, ramps and table tops. The course is safe for both bikers and hikers. All together, the Sliding Rock Trail now has total of three miles of in-city, hike/bike trails.

Half of the $225,000 project was grant funded. Sexton Design and RideGarden completed construction, with volunteer assistance from Americorps and the Upstate Greenways and Trails Alliance trail building team.
