New statewide infrastructure data to be unveiled at August 18 event

New data examining the economic impact of infrastructure investment across South Carolina will be unveiled Tuesday, Aug. 18, at a Columbia luncheon open to the state’s business community.
Hosted by the American Council of Engineering Companies of South Carolina (ACEC-SC) Infrastructure Works Institute, the panel discussion will be led by USC Darla Moore School of Business research economist Dr. Joey Von Nessen and feature leaders from the S.C. Department of Transportation, S.C. Department of Environmental Services, S.C. Rural Infrastructure Authority, S.C. Broadband Office, S.C. Office of Resilience and Charleston and Dorchester counties.
Building on the inaugural study released in 2025, this year’s analysis expands the research with new data partners, updated economic projections through FY2028 and additional insights into the role of transportation, water and wastewater, broadband and resilience infrastructure in South Carolina’s economy. For the first time, the study incorporates investment data from the S.C. Office of Resilience and Charleston and Dorchester counties.
The new findings will examine both the immediate economic activity generated by infrastructure investments and their longer-term implications for jobs, income, business competitiveness and economic growth across South Carolina.
