New technology competition for college students; CTC and USC technology students launch regional event

The growing Carolina Technology Conference will welcome college students from across the Southeast to the inaugural “Carolina Regional Technology Competition,” one of the first of its kind in the Midlands.
“As technology professionals, we want to provide an opportunity to help students flourish,” said John Davis, founding member of the annual technology conference and expo. “As a conference that hosts nearly 1,000 people from 14 states and professionals from all corners of the technology industry, we’re eager to encourage and educate the IT professionals of tomorrow.”
The student IT competition will be held during the October 17-18th Carolina Technology Conference at the Columbia Convention Center. The new technology competition will allow college students to work together or individually on three different tests:
- Troubleshooting Test
- Network Design Challenge
- Security Awareness Test
“We want to offer the student competitors a unique opportunity that other IT competitions may not provide,” said Davis. “We have eager IT professionals who will be judging the competition, but we’ll also be opening up a few of the tests so that students can test their skills against the professionals.”

The Carolina Regional Technology Competition is co-hosted by USC’s student chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals and is sponsored by Advanced Automation Consulting. The Columbia chapter of ISACA (previously known as the Information Systems Audit and Control Association) has offered to cover the cost of admission to the entire Carolina Technology Competition for the first 25 students registered.
