Newly redesigned Richland Library Blythewood officially reopens

June 22, 2017

After nearly a year of construction, Richland Library is reopening the doors to its Blythewood location and inviting the community to take a look at the newly redesigned facility.

The nearly 6,000 square-foot structure, located at 218 McNulty Street, offers customers more space to hold community meetings, offer tutoring and create different projects, a visible history of the Town of Blythewood through the equestrian-inspired design and public art piece that is modeled after the Water Tower Pavilion, and a connection to the outdoors and beautiful trees on the property.

It also features enhanced spaces, which include:

MEETING SPACES: Learn, create and share in these flexible spaces that support community collaboration, presentations, group discussion, workshop activities, tutoring and more.

MAKERSPACE: Tinker, experiment and create in both guided and open lab sessions for all ages.

TEEN AREA: Game, create and hang out in a space just for teens.

LEGO WALL: Take LEGO to another level. Drop by whenever you want to build on our brand new LEGO wall or get ideas during our monthly programs.

CHILDREN’S AREA: Inspire lifelong learning, get your kids ready for kindergarten or build reading muscles in our new Children’s Area. Check out the new family restroom and nursing mother’s room.

GENERAL-USE COMPUTERS: Use this space to apply for a job, conduct research, browse the web or release print jobs.

COURTYARD: Step outside and enjoy the fresh air without leaving the library.

READING NOOKS: Cozy spaces to read throughout the library.

The upgrades are part of a nearly $2 million project that was planned for the Blythewood location, made possible by Richland County residents with the passage of a $59 million bond referendum back in 2013.
