Newsweek names Greenville Technical College to 2023 list of America’s Top Online Colleges

Greenville Technical College (GTC) has been ranked #97 out of the top 200 online learning colleges in the nation. The list is compiled by Newsweek and global data firm Statista Inc. based on a survey of online learners and research into institutions providing online education. Those named to the list were awarded five stars if their aggregate score value was above the median score of all awarded institutions and four stars if that score fell below.

In the state of South Carolina, GTC was the #1 technical college included in the list. Greenville Tech was also ranked #2 out of all colleges and universities in South Carolina, second only to Clemson University. GTC achieved a five-star rating.

The America’s Top Online Colleges 2023 list highlights the nation’s top colleges with online degrees based on an online survey with over 11,400 assessments from more than 9,000 respondents that participated in online college degree programs and/or general online learning courses in the United States. Respondents shared their experiences by rating the institutions regarding several criteria: organization and accessibility, support and service, cost of program, perceived organizational reputation, expected success, and practical relevance of contents. Finally, respondents could indicate how satisfied they were with the organization and to what extent they would recommend it to others.

As Greenville Technical College pivoted to online teaching during the pandemic, GTC realized a need to redesign online course content to better meet student needs. The college joined Quality Matters, an international leader for quality assurance in online and innovative digital teaching and learning environments. Membership provides Greenville Technical College with access to a comprehensive, research-supported quality assurance process to design and develop accessible, engaging online courses. Using these resources, over 50 GTC courses have been redesigned to date, resulting in an improvement in course success rates of over 13 percentage points in those revamped courses.
