Nexsen Pruet Expands Environmental Practice; Mary Shahid Joins Charleston Office

CHARLESTON, SC – May 9, 2011 – Nexsen Pruet is pleased to announce Mary D. Shahid has joined Nexsen Pruet’s Environmental, Administrative & Regulatory Law Practice group as a Member.  Shahid is based in the firm’s office in Charleston.

“Over the past two decades, Mary has been at the epicenter of business needs and environmental protection in South Carolina,” said Environmental Practice group chair Tommy Lavender. ”Her knowledge of the law and experience in working with regulators will be a big benefit to the clients we serve across the state.”

Shahid comes to Nexsen Pruet after nearly ten years the McNair law firm.  Prior to entering into private practice, she served as Chief Counsel of Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management (OCRM) for the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) and as General Counsel for the South Carolina Coastal Council, the agency that became OCRM.

Her law practice is focused on matters involving environmental permitting, appeals to State and Federal courts as well as litigation involving real estate disputes.

Shahid is a 1981 graduate of Vanderbilt University and a 1984 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law.
