Nexton, Maymont Homes join forces for Brookfield Properties’ May of Caring initiative

On May 21, teams from Nexton and Maymont Homes, both part of Brookfield Properties’ portfolio, participated in the company’s “May of Caring,” a month-long initiative celebrating community engagement and volunteerism. More than 100 local employees provided hands-on service at Cypress Gardens, Lowcountry Orphan Relief and Lowcountry Food Bank.

At Cypress Gardens, volunteers painted structures and pruned the gardens; meanwhile, teams at Lowcountry Orphan Relief sorted donations and assembled care kits for children in need. At the Lowcountry Food Bank, groups donated, sorted and packaged food kits to help combat hunger across the region.

Brookfield Properties’ “May of Caring” encourages employees nationwide to engage their local communities and make a positive impact. Other regional corporate activations included a Habitat for Humanity playhouse build in Houston, opportunities with the Special Olympics Summer Games in Washington, D.C., Meals on Wheels in Birmingham, Ala., Ronald McDonald House in Kansas City, Mo. and the American Heart Association’s Wall Street Run & Heart Walk in New York.

“Participating in May of Caring is a meaningful way for our team to connect with the community and give back in a hands-on way,” said Nexton’s Marketing Director Cassie Cataline. “Volunteering at Cypress Gardens reminds us of the importance of preserving what makes the Charleston region such a great place to call home.”
