Nine Greenville County Students Named Contestants in 'Are You Smarter' Fundraiser

Students to Take on Local Celebrities in Quiz-Show Classroom
GREENVILLE, SC – August 2, 2011 – As Greenville County public-schoolstudents head back to classes this month, nine of the best and brightestare also preparing to outsmart local well-known personalities onSaturday, Aug. 20, at the TD Convention Center in Greenville. Selectedfrom the top fifth-grade graduates across the district, these studentswill be the class for the school fundraiser, Are You Smarter Than aGreenville County Schools Fifth-Grader? The event will raise funds forcritically needed operational supplies for every school in the district.
The following are the student contestants, in alphabetical order:
- Stephone Dale, graduate of Sue Cleveland Elementary and rising sixth-grader at Woodmont
- Cassie Driggers, graduate of Bethel Elementary and rising sixth-grader at Mauldin
- Joshua Eccleston, graduate of Simpsonville Elementary and rising sixth-grader at Hillcrest
- Cody Giles, graduate of Mountain View Elementary and rising sixth-grader at Blue Ridge
- Eric Kane, graduate of Woodland Elementary and rising sixth-grader at Riverside
- Taylor Lomax, graduate of Sterling School and rising sixth-grader at Sterling School
- Nicole Salazar, graduate of Cherrydale Elementary and rising sixth-grader at Beck
- Lamaria Suber, graduate of East North St. Academy and rising sixth-grader at Greenville
- Lily Vu, graduate of Mauldin Elementary and rising sixth-grader at Mauldin
The fundraising event will be held at the TD Convention Center (formerlythe Carolina First Center) on Saturday, Aug. 20. Tickets are $7 inadvance or $10 at the door, while supplies last. Admission includes ahot dog supper and an evening of family fun. Underwritten by Michelin,100 percent of all funds raised will go directly to public schools.Tickets can be purchased online at www.HelpSmartKids.com. Doors willopen at 5:30p.m. for supper and pre-event activities. The game begins at7p.m.
