Nonprofit registration now open for Midlands Gives Day 2021, hosted by Central Carolina Community Foundation

October 19, 2020

Nonprofit registration is now open for Midlands Gives Day, the annual 18-hour online-only giving challenge hosted by Central Carolina Community Foundation taking place on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, 6 a.m. – midnight. Nonprofits can register through Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020 at www.MidlandsGives.org.

In its eighth year, Midlands Gives Day will continue to help local nonprofits in 11 Midlands counties overcome the impact of COVID-19 so they can keep providing critical services to the community. Last year, the Midlands Gives website became a year-round platform to amplify and extend the reach of Midlands Gives Day, allowing nonprofits to connect with donors throughout the entire year.

COVID-19 continues to have a direct impact on the nonprofits that serve the Midlands. According to Together SC and the College of Charleston’s Riley Center for Livable Communities’ recent survey of 566 nonprofit organizations across South Carolina, nearly two-thirds (63%) of nonprofits indicate they can survive for only six months or less without additional funding. Midlands Gives will raise funds that are crucial to the survival of these organizations.

“Our local nonprofits are in dire need of funding due to the financial impact of the pandemic,” says JoAnn Turnquist, president and CEO of Central Carolina Community Foundation. “We must invest in the organizations that are investing in our communities every single day —organizations that are critical to the wellbeing and vitality of our region.”

Midlands Gives Day brings the region together as one community, raising money and awareness for local nonprofits to help amplify their impact, administer vital public services and boost the quality of life in the Midlands. Since its inception in 2014, Midlands Gives has raised more than $12.5 million for hundreds of local nonprofits. In 2020, Midlands Gives Day had a record-breaking year raising over $3.3 million via 22,477 individual gifts.

Nonprofits That Register by Nov. 13 Receive Early Bird Benefits
Nonprofits that register by Friday, Nov. 13, will be considered part of the “Early Bird Club” and will be eligible for benefits including the following:

• A special Giving Tuesday drawing that will award 10 randomly selected nonprofits with a $200 prize. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
• Priority consideration for interview opportunities with local media.
• Priority consideration to be featured in the Foundation’s stories about Midlands Gives.
• A review of the organization’s Midlands Gives profile by a Community Foundation team member to promote donor engagement.

New this year, nonprofit organizations will pay a $10 participation fee to register for Midlands Gives Day. The new fee will support and sustain the administration of Midlands Gives, including providing nonprofit trainings and online resources to help nonprofits strengthen their fundraising and marketing strategies. As always, after a 2.2% credit card fee and 2.8% technology fee from CiviCore, 100% of each contribution goes to the donor’s selected nonprofit.

Registration for returning nonprofits is as easy as logging into their existing profile, updating their information, and signing a participation agreement — no training is required.

Nonprofits that are new to Midlands Gives must fill out an online application and attend one mandatory Midlands Gives 101 training session via webinar or recording, which will provide participants the tools and resources to meet their giving day goals.

Approved nonprofit profiles will remain active on the website and will be eligible to receive donations through the following year’s registration deadline.

New Features and Resources to Help Nonprofits Succeed
Midlands Gives provides a year-round virtual platform for nonprofit organizations to increase awareness, donors and dollars all within one campaign. Nonprofits can create an extensive, yet cost-effective outreach campaign using new features including the following:

• Added demographic information to identify Black-led and Black-benefiting nonprofits, in alignment with the goals of the Foundation’s African American Philanthropy Committee.
• Earlier access to videos, tools and resources to help prepare for giving day.
• Capacity building training to help improve and build the skills and knowledge to set organizations up for future success.
