NorthMark Compute and Cloud launches charitable giving arm
September 1, 2026New charitable giving arm will support STEM education, workforce development, public safety and resource stewardship across Spartanburg
NorthMark Compute & Cloud (NMC2) announced the launch of the NMC2 charitable giving arm, a new community investment initiative designed to expand opportunity, strengthen local organizations and help prepare the next generation of innovators, skilled professionals and community leaders in Spartanburg and the surrounding region.
The charitable giving arm launches as NMC2 reaches a significant milestone: $1 million in charitable commitments to the Spartanburg community announced this week, including major contributions to Middle Tyger Education Center, Spartanburg Community College and The Spartanburg Science Center.
NMC2 believes its success is inseparable from the success of the communities where it operates.
“Spartanburg is not simply where NMC2 is building, it is a community we are proud to be part of,” said Mark Johnson, COO of NMC2. “Our commitment is to invest in people, skills and partnerships that create opportunity and make a lasting difference. The $1 million we have committed so far is an important beginning, but this is about more than financial contributions. We want to build enduring relationships and work alongside organizations that know this community best. As NMC2 grows here, we want the people of Spartanburg to grow with us and help shape the future we are building together.”
Building Tomorrow Together
The NMC2 Charitable Giving Foundation will focus its investments in four areas closely connected to the needs and future of the community:
- STEM Education – Expanding access to science, technology, engineering and mathematics education and inspiring students to explore careers in technology and innovation.
- Workforce Development – Supporting technical education, skilled trades, career readiness and training that create pathways to meaningful careers.
- Public Safety – Supporting the people and organizations that help keep Spartanburg safe, resilient and prepared.
- Resource Stewardship – Partnering with organizations and programs that promote responsible use of resources and help strengthen the community for future generations.
These initial donations reflect the NMC2’s broader goal of building long-term partnerships with organizations that understand Spartanburg’s needs and are creating opportunities for people throughout the community.
NMC2’s commitment to workforce development is already taking shape through its support of Spartanburg Community College, where education and technical training are helping connect local students with meaningful career opportunities.
“At Spartanburg Community College, we believe the future of our region is shaped by the investments we make today. NorthMark Compute & Cloud’s commitment reflects a shared vision for a stronger community and greater opportunity for all,” said Dr. Michael Mikota, president of Spartanburg Community College.
NMC2 is also investing in opportunities to spark an interest in science and technology well before students begin thinking about careers, including support for hands-on learning at the Spartanburg Science Center.
“This gift means a child who visits the Science Center will get to build with new tools, explore updated spaces, and dive into more hands-on science than ever before. That’s the whole point of what we do, and this investment lets us do more of it,” said Amanda Richardson, executive director, Spartanburg Science Center.
That commitment to STEM education begins with Spartanburg’s youngest learners through NMC2’s support of early childhood learning at Middle Tyger Community Center.
More Than Financial Support
The charitable giving arm’s work will extend beyond financial contributions. NMC2 will encourage employees to contribute their time, expertise and talents through volunteer service, mentoring, STEM outreach and nonprofit leadership.
NMC2 will seek opportunities for employees and community organizations to work together, recognizing that lasting partnerships are built through active engagement, shared purpose and a commitment to making a difference.
