August 17, 2021

Evan Hammond, a financial advisor and field director of Northwestern Mutual’s Charleston office, was selected as a 2021 honoree of the Charleston Regional Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 recognition. The annual award recognizes the professional success and community involvement of 40 professionals under the age of 40 who are making their mark on the region.

“Evan is a strong leader and is passionate about helping Charleston families and local business owners plan for retirement, prepare for unexpected setbacks and take control of finances to easily navigate major life events,” said Chrys Kanos, managing director of Northwestern Mutual’s Charleston office. “He deserves to be recognized among the other smart, talented and young leaders included in this year’s Forty Under 40 class.”

Hammond, a graduate of Wofford College, started his career with Northwestern Mutual in January of 2017 as a college intern and transitioned into an advisor role in January of 2018. He has held numerous leadership roles at Northwestern Mutual, such as college unit director, where he successfully led the Charleston office’s internship program. He later become the office’s growth & development director, where he spearheaded recruiting efforts and the development of new advisors. Currently, Hammond spends his time mentoring and building a team as a field director, while also serving his clients as a financial advisor.

Hammond was named Northwestern Mutual’s Representative of the Year in 2018 across South Carolina and North Carolina. As a consistent top-performing advisor, he was a speaker at Northwestern Mutual’s 2021 company-wide Annual Meeting in Milwaukee and was invited to be part of the exclusive LEAD program, an honor offered to the top financial advisors in Northwestern Mutual.
A member of the United States Army Reserve, Hammond joined the 1182nd Deployment & Distribution Support Battalion (DDSB) in Charleston and was commissioned as an officer in May of 2017. He has since been promoted to first lieutenant and received several recognitions and honors in his unit. He also serves as the Battalion Safety Officer and works jointly with other officers to plan all operations and exercises for the 1182nd DDSB.

Hammond and the other 2021 Forty Under 40 honorees will be recognized during a special event and award ceremony on September 30 during the 24th anniversary of the Charleston Regional Business awards program, which is presented this year by the College of Charleston School of Business Master of Business Administration and sponsored by the Charleston Gaillard Center.
