Huntington Hospital Launches New Program to Provide Excellence in Obstetric Care

GREENVILLE, SCHuntington Hospital of San Gabriel Valley, CA recently partnered with Ob Hospitalist Group (OBHG) to provide on-site, Board Certified OB/GYN obstetric hospitalist services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The program started on January 29, 2015. The mission of the program is to elevate the standard of women’s healthcare by delivering specialized obstetric services that deliver the very best patient care and reduce delays in care.

This program was a vision shared by Paula Varrette, MD, Huntington Hospital Senior Vice President of Quality and Physician Services and Dr. James Macer Board Certified OB/GYN. After many years of research into obstetric hospitalist medicine and countless hours of evaluating providers, Huntington Hospital made the decision to partner with Ob Hospitalist Group. OBHG, based in South Carolina, leads the industry in developing and managing on-site OB/GYN hospitalist programs. They are a physician-founded, and physician-run company that provides personalized management of OB/GYN hospitalists.

While many obstetricians divide their time between the hospital and their private practice, OBHG hospitalists focus solely on providing care to patients in the labor and delivery unit, as well as those facing emergent situations. These physicians provide enhanced coverage and a critical safety net to private OB/GYNs and their patients.

Patients presenting to Huntington Hospital will be evaluated by emergent-care experienced OB/GYNs rather than the traditional nurse-led phone triage found in many hospitals. Patients will also have immediate access to the best surgical care possible if necessary. OB/GYN hospitalist programs give women and their families peace of mind during one of the most important moments of their lives; when minutes can make a difference between life and death.

“Partnering with Huntington Hospital, and the more than 80 current and onboarding OBHG partner hospitals is significant not just because it confirms our leadership in this emerging industry but more importantly because of the lives that will be saved,” remarked Christopher D. Pott, OBHG Vice President of Strategic Initiatives. “We celebrate each new hospital partner because we know the value of our hospitalists being on-site 24/7 to help when they’re needed most. Our presence reduces delays in care and prevents many tragic outcomes in hospitals across the country every day. It also confirms Huntington Hospital’s commitment to providing the very best women’s healthcare in their region.”
