One Columbia and University of South Carolina Calls for Artists

February 10, 2015

Proposals Accepted through March 13, 2015

COLUMBIA SC – One Columbia for Arts and History, the University of South Carolina and the City of Columbia are proud to announce the planning phases of a new public art piece on the campus of the University of South Carolina.

Through the partnership of these three organizations, One Columbia is excited to begin the search process from which an artist will be selected to construct a public art piece in Southwest Plaza at Foundation Square at the corner of Lincoln and Greene Streets. After extensive collaboration and consideration of the community, a proposal will be selected based on site compatibility, artist qualification and experience, design, feasibility, budget and maintainability.

The artwork will be created site-specific to capture the vibrant sense of place of the University and the City. It will be an integral part of the landscaping, streetscaping, and architecture of the site, and must take into account its historical, geographical and socio-cultural context. While it is not necessary for the piece to be interactive, it should allow for and invite physical engagement with the pedestrians who will daily walk by it.

Proposals will be accepted until March 13, 2015, with an anticipated installation in November of the same year. Applicants will be notified via email by April 15.

Artists interested in submitting their qualifications for consideration for future projects can find the call for artists on the One Columbia for Arts and History website.
