One Step Closer to Connecting Our Communities: Lowcountry Rapid Transit Project Team to Hold Design Update Meetings

November 25, 2024

Members of the public, local communities, and businesses are invited to learn about progress on the future Lowcountry Rapid Transit system

The Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments (BCDCOG) is excited to announce that the Lowcountry Rapid Transit (LCRT) project has reached a major milestone in advancing the design of the future 21.3-mile bus rapid transit system. Members of the public are invited to join the project team at our Community Open House or view the Virtual On-Demand Meeting to receive an update on the project’s progress, learn more about the system, and provide input into its development.

  • Community Open Houses

Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the Keith Summey Public Library (3503 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston), 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The public is encouraged to drop in anytime during either open house timeframe. A light meal will be provided for attendees.

  • Members of the public can also view the Virtual On-Demand Meeting, available now through December 16 by visiting lowcountryrapidtransit.com.

Operating mostly in dedicated lanes from Ladson, serving North Charleston along Rivers Avenue and connecting to the Medical District in Downtown Charleston, LCRT will offer a safe, reliable, low-cost, and new mobility alternative to tens of thousands of residents and visitors.

BCDCOG has followed a federal funding process that includes project planning, programming, development, engineering, and construction. The project team has entered the final design as part of the engineering phase. It will share updates on station locations and architecture, system-wide branding, bike and pedestrian accommodations, and intersection and roadway plans.

Lowcountry Rapid Transit (LCRT)

LCRT is a modern bus rapid transit system that will connect the region, its communities, key destinations, and employment centers. This project will transform our region by improving transportation for people traveling on buses, on foot, and on bikes. The foundation of LCRT will serve Charleston, North Charleston, and Ladson and spark upward mobility and economic growth throughout the area.
