One Year Later: Post 25 Sees Mission Through for Local Veteran

October 26, 2025

It’s been more than a year since American Legion Post 25 first stepped up to help longtime Laurens County resident and veteran Buddy Baldwin, whose home was condemned after sustaining major damage during Hurricane Helene. On Saturday, October 25th, thanks to the persistence and compassion of fellow Legionnaires, Baldwin and his wife—both in their 80s—were finally moved out of their condemned home and into a safe rental nearby.

The move, which took six members of the post nearly ten hours to complete, marked the latest milestone in what has been a year-long journey of support. From coordinating with insurance to navigating construction challenges and logistics, Post 25 has stood by the couple every step of the way.

“This effort really shows what Post 25 is all about,” said Commander Kevin Farnsworth. “We don’t just talk about helping veterans—we do it. Even when it takes a year or more to make it happen, we stay committed until the job is done.”

The post’s involvement began shortly after Hurricane Helene when members learned that Baldwin’s home had been declared unsafe. They immediately began working to find solutions, donating time, labor, and resources while continuing to raise funds for other veterans and community causes.

For Post 25, the mission goes beyond one-time projects—it’s about lasting impact. Whether it’s collecting toys for local children, supporting law enforcement, or helping elderly veterans rebuild their lives, the post continues to live out its motto of service to others.

“Everything we do comes back to the community,” Farnsworth added. “This is what happens when people come together to take care of their own.”

Through hard work, heart, and determination, American Legion Post 25 once again proved that service doesn’t end when the uniforms come off—it simply takes a new form, one that keeps faith with those who served.
