Open Enrollment Now Open for SC Education Scholarships—What Parents Need to Know

South Carolina parents looking for more options in their child’s education have an exciting opportunity. As of Monday, May 19, 2025, applications are now open for the state’s Education Scholarship Account (ESA) program, which provides $7,500 scholarships to eligible K–12 students for the 2025–2026 school year.

The program—designed to help families tailor their children’s education—can be used for a wide variety of approved educational expenses, including:

  • Tuition and fees for private or charter schools

  • Tutoring and specialized therapies (speech, behavioral, occupational)

  • Instructional materials and technology

  • Transportation costs

Who Is Eligible?

This year, up to 10,000 students will be awarded scholarships. To qualify:

  • Families must earn less than 300% of the federal poverty level (approximately $96,450 for a family of four)

  • Students must be South Carolina residents

  • Students do not need to have attended public school previously

  • Children of active-duty military families were eligible to apply early, starting May 12
