Orthopaedic Associates Awards Scholarship to Dorman High Graduate Brandon Xavier

SPARTANBURG, SC – Orthopaedic Associates, PA (OA) announced that the recipient of its Annual W. Howard Tiller, Jr. Memorial Scholarship is Brandon Xavier, a 2015 graduate of Dorman High School. Xavier plans to attend Clemson University majoring in biochemistry and minoring in Spanish. His career goal is to become a surgeon. He has had many achievements including:
- Student Council;
- Dorman High Medical Society;
- Dorman High STEM program;
- Palmetto Boys State delegate;
- National Beta Club;
- National Honors Society.
“I acknowledge my parents, Denzil and Madeleine Xavier for supporting me throughout high school and also Mrs. Lesa Banks for being my mentor and having a significant impact on my life by allowing me realize my interest medicine and guiding me through it,” said Xavier. “Without them I would not have won this scholarship.”
Scholarship selection criteria are based on a student’s academic achievement, community service and his or her interest in pursuing a career in healthcare. The $1,000 scholarship was offered to graduating seniors of the schools where OA serves as their team physicians: Spartanburg High School, Dorman High School, Byrnes High School, Woodruff High School, Union High School, Limestone College and Spartanburg Methodist College.
The one-year scholarship is named after the late W. Howard Tiller, Jr., M.D. A native of Spartanburg, Dr. Tiller completed degrees at Wake Forest University and Duke University. Dr. Tiller practiced orthopaedics for more than two decades and was a partner with Orthopaedic Associates, P.A. from 1998 until his unexpected death in 2003 at the age of 51.
