Orthopaedic Associates Awards Scholarship to Dorman High Student A.J. Booker

SPARTANBURG, SC – May 4, 2011 – Orthopaedic Associates (OA) announced today that the recipient of its Annual W. Howard Tiller, Jr. Memorial Scholarship is Jeffrey (AJ) Booker, a 2011 graduate of Dorman High School. Booker plans to attend Newberry College and pursue a career as a Registered Nurse.  He has had many achievements including: 

•    Plays cello in the Philharmonic and Concert Orchestra at Dorman;
•    Excelled in several sports: varsity football at Dorman (co-captain of football team), basketball, track & field;
•    On the Honor Roll (9-12th grade);
•    Attends Silver Hill United Methodist Church and active member of the youth group.

Selection criteria are based on a student’s academic achievement, community service and his or her interest in pursuing a career in healthcare. The $1,000 scholarship was offered to graduating seniors of the schools where OA serves as their team physicians: Spartanburg High School, Dorman High School, Byrnes High School, Woodruff High School, Union High School, Limestone College, and Spartanburg Methodist College.

The one-year scholarship is named after the late W. Howard Tiller, Jr., M.D.  A native of Spartanburg, Dr. Tiller completed degrees at Wake Forest University and Duke University.  Dr. Tiller practiced orthopaedics  for more than two decades and was a partner with Orthopaedic Associates, P.A. from 1998 until his unexpected death in 2003 at the age of 51. 

Founded in 1962, Orthopaedic Associates is located at the North Grove Medical Park at 1330 Boiling Springs Road, Suite 1600 in Spartanburg and 115 Deacon Tiller Court in Duncan.
