Palmetto Brothers Dispensary Rallies to Support Local Restaurant after Vandalism Incident

October 10, 2022

On Saturday, October 8, a local favorite, Roma Italian Restaurant, located on Laurens’ historic Square, was vandalized, and robbed. The incident kept Roma from being open on Sunday and upset the owners and other local merchants.

“I am angered and disappointed to hear of this incident,” said Laurens Mayor Nathan Senn.  “Roma is beloved by our entire community, a place where so many special meals have happened, and more importantly, where such special people work. Acts of vandalism and robbery will not be tolerated in the City of Laurens,” Senn said.

On Sunday morning after learning of the incident, Wes Meetze owner of Palmetto Brothers Dispensary created an event to support the owners of Roma Italian Restaurant.

“The businesses on the Square are a family. When we opened Palmetto Brothers Dispensary, Yvonne, Jennifer, and the whole Roma crew welcomed us to Laurens with open arms,” said Meetze. “While nothing can replace the sense of peace that was shattered by this senseless crime, the least we can do is try to alleviate some of the financial burden it has caused. And we hope to do that with a little fun, friendly competition!”

News of the pizza eating contest spread quickly and the challenge is on.

“I am happy to lend my full support to helping our friends at Roma recover from this incident. I have gladly accepted the invitation to join a fellow businessman, Wes Meetze of Palmetto Brothers for their upcoming ‘pizza eating contest’. This is a great way for our community to show solidarity for the Roma in their hour of need, just as they have done so much to help support our city when times were hard,” Senn said.

Palmetto Brothers Dispensary is hosting this fun fundraising event. The ‘Roma Pizza Eating Contest’ will be held on Saturday, October 22 at 7:00 pm.  There is a $25.00 fee to participate in the pizza eating contest and a $5.00 fee to come and cheer on favorite contestant. Each contestant will receive a large pizza, pint of beer, and an opportunity to beat the reigning pizza eating champion, Mr. Wes Meetze. All proceeds will go directly to Roma’s. Tickets are limited!
