Palmetto Citizens Foundation launches Teacher Grant Program to support local classrooms

April 20, 2026

Nearly 90 years after being founded by teachers, Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union is giving back to the classroom in a meaningful new way. The Palmetto Citizens Foundation, which was founded in 2025 to expand the credit union’s longstanding commitment to philanthropic endeavors, announced the launch of its Teacher Grant Program, an initiative designed to support K-12 educators and strengthen classroom experiences.

“Teachers show up for their students every single day, often going above and beyond to make learning meaningful,” said Emilie Lewis, executive director of the Palmetto Citizens Foundation. “The Teacher Grant Program is our way of showing up for them—supporting their ideas and investing directly in the classroom where real impact happens.”

The Teacher Grant Program provides grants of up to $1,000 to fund classroom supplies, instructional materials, and creative projects that bring learning to life and directly support student success.

The fall application cycle is now open through Sept. 30, 2026, with a second winter cycle closing on Jan. 31, 2027, providing educators with multiple opportunities throughout the year to apply. Applications not selected in one cycle will automatically be carried forward and considered in the next cycle.

Educators are encouraged to review program guidelines and apply online at https://palmettocitizensfoundation.org/teacher-grant-program/. Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee, and grant recipients will be notified following the review process.

“This program reflects the foundation’s ongoing commitment to education and community impact, honoring its roots by continuing to support the educators who shape future generations,” said Lewis.

Originally founded in 1936 as the Columbia Teachers Credit Union, Palmetto Citizens has grown significantly over the decades, but its commitment to educators and education has remained a constant. The Teacher Grant Program continues that tradition by investing directly in today’s classrooms.
