Palmetto Community Care hires Development/Marketing Director

July 9, 2021

Richard Reams has joined Palmetto Community Care as Director of Development and Marketing. In addition to promoting the health advocacy and prevention organization, he’ll help head up signature events for the North Charleston-based non-profit.

Prior to joining PCC, Reams was Senior Pastor at the North Charleston United Methodist Church, where he helped measurably increase giving, managed a large and diverse staff, and oversaw numerous operational improvements.

He holds a Master of Divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary and a BA in Psychology from Clemson University.

PCC operates two locations: a prevention and testing center at 6296 Rivers Avenue, and the agency’s administrative and case management functions at 3547 Meeting Street Road. Funded through a blend of private and public support, the agency runs two signature fundraising events each year: Charleston Beer Fest and Gay Bingo.

In 2020 alone, PCC managed more than 844 clients and provided more than 2,200 free and confidential HIV and STI tests. Palmetto Community Care was originally founded as Lowcountry AIDS Services, and its staff works tirelessly to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS in the region through a mix of advocacy, outreach, health interventions and case management. Today, the agency continues to offer those services as well as a robust preventing/testing and education program designed to prevent a wide range of STIs.
