Palmetto Health receives coveted Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs accreditation

April 21, 2016

Palmetto Health is one of eight organizations to receive full accreditation from the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP), the international accrediting body for organizations conducting human research who have demonstrated that their standards for protection exceed those required by the U.S. government. This accreditation is effective for three years. To date, 227 organizations have earned AAHRPP accreditation.

“AAHRPP is the most prestigious accrediting organization and sets the standard for excellence in the performance of an Institutional Review Board,” said Frank Spinale, M.D., Ph.D., vice president of Research. “The fact that Palmetto Health has achieved this recognition speaks to the high quality of Institutional Review Board members and staff and the caliber of our clinical research program as a whole.”

To earn AAHRPP accreditation, organizations must demonstrate that they have built extensive safeguards into every level of their research operation and that they adhere to high standards for research. In today’s global, collaborative research enterprise, organizations increasingly rely on AAHRPP accreditation status to help identify trusted research partners.
