Palmetto Health Welcomes Columbia Women’s Healthcare

COLUMBIA, SC – October 22, 2012 – Palmetto Health announces that Drs. Myles Davis, Mary Neuffer, Albert Odom and Alexander Smythe have joined its physician network. Their practice, Columbia Women’s Healthcare, is located at 1301 Taylor St., suite 6-J, in Columbia and is currently accepting new patients. The practice is open Monday-Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Columbia Women’s Healthcare is the newest member of the Palmetto Health Physician Practice Network, composed of nearly 40 primary care and specialty practices affiliated with of the region’s largest healthcare system. Since 1998, this respected group of board-certified obstetricians/gynecologists has tended to the unique nature of women. In addition to delivering more than 600 babies every year, these physicians also provide minimally invasive gynecological surgery (including robotic-assisted surgery), in-office gynecological procedures and 4-D ultrasound, and have a maternal fetal medicine specialist to care for high-risk pregnancies.

Columbia Women’s Healthcare physicians include:

Myles D. Davis, M.D., is a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He completed his internship at the Hospital of Saint Raphael, in New Haven, Conn., and completed his residency at Palmetto Health Richland. Davis is a Columbia native and has been in private practice since 1991. He is married with two children and enjoys traveling, movies, running, cycling, tennis and the arts.

Mary K. Neuffer, M.D., is a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina and is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She completed her internship and residency at the University of South Alabama, in Mobile, Ala. Neuffer is married with three children and enjoys traveling, cooking, reading and spending time with her family.

Albert E. Odom, M.D., is a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina and is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He completed his residency at Richland Memorial Hospital where he served as chief resident in 1987. He is one of the original members of Palmetto Health Baptist’s committee for robotic surgery and one of the most experienced gynecologic robotic surgeons in Columbia. Odom is a member of the American College of OB/GYN, American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, and is past president of the Columbia Medical Society. He also volunteers at the Columbia Free Medical Clinic.

Alexander R. Smythe, II, M.D., is a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina and is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He completed his internship at the University of Alabama Hospital and Clinics, in Birmingham, Ala., and completed his residency at the Medical University of South Carolina. He is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is fellowship-trained in maternal fetal medicine. Smythe is married with four children and five grandchildren and enjoys hunting, golf and spending time at Lake Wateree.
