PalmettoPride to launch SC Sweep campaign from April 25 to May 4
April 30, 2025The statewide campaign is meant to encourage SC residents to pick up litter and keep South Carolina beautiful
PalmettoPride, South Carolina’s anti-litter organization, is launching its new SC Sweep campaign. The statewide initiative encourages citizens, along with PalmettoPride and its partners, to work together in preserving the natural beauty of South Carolina by picking up litter all across the state.
Taking place April 25 through May 4, PalmettoPride’s SC Sweep campaign is encouraging South Carolina citizens to choose a location in their local community to clean up or join a clean-up event hosted by a PalmettoPride partner organization.
“Litter prevention is our ultimate goal at PalmettoPride, but getting everyone to participate in litter pick-up is still necessary,” says Sarah Lyles, Executive Director of PalmettoPride. “The cleaner we keep our communities, the less likely people are to litter in the first place.”
In a 2021 study, Keep America Beautiful reported an average of more than 2,000 pieces of litter per mile along roadways and waterways.
“When you first see the numbers, it’s astonishing how much litter can accumulate across the state,” says Joseph Berry, Keep South Carolina Beautiful Affiliate Services and Special Projects Manager at PalmettoPride. “But when you break down those numbers for South Carolina — you can see that if everyone picked up about 12 pieces of litter each, we can keep our state’s roadways and waterways clean.”
The SC Sweep campaign is just one of many activations for the organization. PalmettoPride encourages everyone to stay involved year-round by picking up trash, recycling when possible, adopting a space to keep clean and educating their friends about the impact of litter in their communities.
