Parade Route changes for RBC Heritage Opening Ceremonies

April 5, 2016

The RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing kicks off like no other event on the PGA TOUR. South Carolina’s only PGA TOUR event, the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing will begin with its 48th annual parade on Monday, April 11.

Defending Champion Jim Furyk, Heritage Classic Foundation board members, volunteers and state dignitaries will still march in the parade around the Harbour Town Yacht Basin to the sounds of the Citadel’s Pipe and Drum band, but this year the route wil change to allow more areas for spectator viewing.

Parade start time: 11 a.m.

Parade Route: The parade will start at the Liberty Oak in Harbour Town, march halfway around the Yacht Basin and turn left at the walkway toward the Harbour Town Clubhouse. The parade will turn right onto Lighthouse Lane and proceed onto the 18th fairway, passing the cemetery on the right. Permitted participants will march down the middle of the fairway to the green where the Opening Ceremonies will begin.

During Opening Ceremonies, the tradition focuses on the defending champion, Furyk, who will be presented with his Captain of Gentlemen Golfers plaque and Tartan Jacket before continuing the tradition of hitting a golf ball into the Calibogue Sound in unison with a cannon shot. Those shots officially begin the start of tournament week.

Spectators are welcome to sit in the bleachers and lower level of the skyboxes, but must have a tournament ticket. Anyone can watch the parade along its route before they reach the golf course.

A map of the parade’s new route is attached.

Daily tickets and weeklong badges for this year’s tournament are now on sale online at www.rbcheritage.com or at the Hilton Head Island • Bluffton Chamber of Commerce, 1 Chamber Way, Hilton Head Island, S.C.
