Pawmetto Lifeline works to protect pets this Fourth of July

July 1, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – The Fourth of July is just around the corner and Pawmetto Lifeline is offering a discount rate on microchips this week to help ensure all pets have a safe holiday.

The loud bangs and noises that come with fireworks found at many 4th of July celebrations often scare animals because of their sensitive hearing. When scared  by lound noises, animals are likely to run away potentially bolting out front doors, breaking through screened porches, snapping collars, and jumping fences in an effort to get away from the perceived danger.

“Each year, one of the busiest days we see at the municipal shelters is the Monday after Fourth of July,” says Taylor Wilson, Director of Marketing and Communications for Pawmetto Lifeline. “Pets get scared and run away from their homes. Many are found without collars or identification information, like a microchip.” Unfortunately, because of high volume and low resources, municipal shelters become overcrowded very quickly and pets without identification run the risk of being euthanized, Wilson explained.

In an effort to make sure all pets, not just those lost during July 4th celebrations find their way home, Pawmetto Lifeline is offering a 40% discount on microchips this week Monday through Thursday at their Pre-Fourth of July Vaccine Clinic Blitz. Between the hours of 10am and 4pm, clients can come to the 1275 Bower Parkway facility to have their pet microchipped for just $15 with no appointment necessary and no exam fee charged.

Pawmetto Lifeline recommends other ways to keep your pets safe including keeping them indoors or secured in a safe place in your home during firework displays and being careful not to set off fireworks near pets.

Make sure your holiday is safe for your beloved pets by bringing them in to get microchipped before the Independence Day celebrations.
